A Different Kettle of Fish.
Fish features heavily in the Mediterranean diet which is often hailed as the best way to eat when trying to conceive (TTC). That doesn't mean to say that all fish are equally good to eat.
When TTC it makes sense to try and remove as many toxins and potential pollutants from your environment and lifestyle as possible. We wanna give those little eggs and sperm the best shot at growing, right?!
So, what's the deal with fish? Well, certain species have the potential to contain increased levels of mercury (a neurotoxin). By sticking to the lower mercury options we're potentially reducing the environmental toxins our body has to deal with.
This doesn't mean avoid fish altogether! Fish and shellfish are a good source of protein with some having beneficial omega-3 fats too.
The fish on the pic above are all considered to be lower in mercury content so a better choice to pop on your weekly shopping list.
Anchovies and sardines contain calcium, salmon is packed with omega-3 fats and mackerel is a good source of magnesium so all the more reason to eat them!
Always look to buy sustainably caught fish and mix up your fish choices for variety.
